Whimsical Worlds: Developing Ideas - Canvas or Works on Paper?
Tuning in to the audiobook of 'Anne of Green Gables' while living in the Maritimes have been much more enjoyable now that I've seen the red dirt roads described in the book (albeit in Nova Scotia rather than Prince Edward Island). Can't help but love the way Anne sees the world - despite being an impoverished orphan without friends, she has an enviably rich imagination and the heart and soul of an optimist, seeing beauty in all the world around her. It's through this sense of wonder, whimsy and delight that we continue exploring this whimsical world.
The exploration process continues with the Whimsical Worlds series. In these two paintings, I took sketches and created finished pieces on canvas using oil and acrylic paints and mediums. The result is a slightly textured, painterly look, a departure from the more illustrative mixed media pieces on watercolour paper. More on those later. In the meantime, you're invited to take a look at some work in progress shots and detailed shots for these two snapshots into a hidden world of beachy islands and coasts. :)
